From April 18 to 21, the virtuoso cellist Sol Gabetta takes centre stage on Brava. For four days, Brava celebrates the world-famous Argentine cellist’s 35th birthday by broadcasting some her greatest concerts so far, including several from her own Solsberg chamber music festival in Switzerland.
Cellist Sol Gabetta, born on April 18 1981 in Villa María in Argentina of French and Russian descent, is one of today’s greatest stars in classical music. She won her first competition when she was only 10 years old and honed her craft in Europe. In 2004, Gabetta achieved international acclaim when she won the Crédit Suisse Young Artist Award. Also in 2004 she made her debut with the Wiener Philharmoniker and Valery Gergiev. One of the highlights of Gabetta’s career so far was her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, at the Baden-Baden Easter Festival in 2014.
Sol Gabetta is currently based in the Swiss canton of Aargau. There, in the village of Olsberg, she has made her dream a reality: this exceptional musician moonlights as the artistic leader of the Solsberg Festival. Ever since its first edition, the festival enjoys an excellent reputation among music lovers. Every year, renowned musicians are invited to perform at the Solsberg Festival, which focuses on chamber music. During the ‘Sol Gambetta’ special, Brava broadcasts three performances recorded at the Solsberg Festival.
